WLT bags will keep leaves fresh forever. LO leaves have to go right in a cooler. Coolers keep stuff ready to use. Filler stays around 65%. Wrapper 75 to 80%. Dry stuff gets conditioned before use. I have a post here about the conditioning setup.

Here's the conditioning cooler:

You're looking at a Coleman 24 can "stacker", with a dollar store faux tupperware tray in the bottom that has some water in it, a dorm fridge rack on that, leaf on the rack. Works gentle and slow. Only for wrapper or binder which is has dried for whatever reason. I most always try to use binder and wrapper right straight out of the bag. For everything long term, if it's from Whole Leaf Tobacco and has never been opened, then it lives in a cardboard box in the corner, cause those bags he uses are da bom; but if it's been opened or if it came from LeafOnly, then it's in coolers. So far, storing a big stash has been no problem at all. Leaves don't take that much room and I like looking at them.

I don't know how you folks like that Olar. To me anything Olar has an awful back of the throat aftertaste.
Started an experiment this morning. I'm gonna enclose a half leaf of that olor inside a mellow vuelta abajo body, then bind & wrap it with mellow sumatra. The goal is to get a whiff of that wunnerful olor aroma without making it stick to the back of your throat. If I can figure it out I'll shoot you some.

Sposed to get some leaves tomorrow. A customer who grew his own back in 06, I think he said; then fermented it for six months before salting it away. Black Mammoth, Habano, I dunno what all. Wants me to roll some up for him. Fascinated to see how it works out. These gardeners baffle me. I have no affinity for growing plants. Black thumb.

If you like it, I never use Broadleaf & I've got plenty more. Any time I want that flavor, I just grab a Smithdale.

I'm told the secret to a tasty BL gar is to use the cuttings in the filler. Something about those veiny bits, I spose.
Getting ready to use that wrapper. Started bringing it up to case yesterday. That broadleaf is the thinnest broadleaf with the smallest veins I've ever worked with and it comes up to case quickly. Has a wonderful velvet texture and a promising aroma. I will be able to smoke a tester in a few days.

Some nice looking new leaf to play with:

That Nic binder was so wet upon arrival, I took it out and de-stemmed it all. Gave it time to dry a little and eliminated a few that were moldy already.
I was thinking about @Marc L thread about sorting but am supposed to be sleeping so will have to sort further later.

Got a seven pound box of Black Mammoth, Virginia Gold, and Havana 305B, from an FX Smith customer in Ohio who grew baccy out back in 2003 thru 2005, wants me to roll him some gars. Says fermented three to six months. Fourteen years of age! Talk about a mellow aroma!

I spose you could say it does have a black hue to it; but the mammoth part of the name is dead on. These leaves are gigantor. The box they came in is 24" long and they had to be cram-jammed and bent round to fit in it. I'm thinking two and a half foot leaves.

Here's the first quickie I rolled from this new stash:

I used one of the VA gold for a wrapper. You can see how it split. Larry Butcher warned me it would, but I just had to try anyways for the color and the aroma. Might have to throw some broadleaf on top, cause that is stronger.

Looks like a fun project.

Where's the MF binder coming? Wlt? Been wanting binder grade for a while. Corojo viso is out of stock also which is a nightmare for me. I use more of that than any other filler. Sweating bullets at the moment. My current stash isn't going to last long.

Growing I can wrap my brain around, how he fermented cured and aged it is what has me curious.

So Dominican56 sends me this goodness:

No, not the Indian racing flag. I mean the gar leaf. LO Dom Olor, both seco and ligero; with a bag of WLT Flojo as well. I am mister stash right now. Thanks. I am truly stashed to the max. Stashmaster. Randy warned me he had bugs, so I stuffed these bags in the freezer right after taking this pic. First time I ever froze baccy.

Tomorrow I'm shooting out a bag of FX CT that Larry Butcher asked for. It's in the conditioner now. I find that fact very amusing, don't you? It's as tho I got on the phone with my bud Tapatok the Eskimo, asking him about ice, & he asks me to send him some snow for his igloo. Larry wants to grow shade this year, so he wants to know what finished CT shade should look & act like. More power to him. Lotta damn work, that farming. I have a box of Lorenzo Carnicero gars round here somewhere. I prolly ought to send him a fistful with the leaf, since they're named after him.

The only one who makes out good in this scenario is the mail man.

I just happen to be bunching two all-Olor robustos right now. I just got a sample of the ligero and haven't used it before. I use the seco for binder: so I'm using non-binder-graded olor for the filler, and then the olor ligero. I'll wrap one in CT Shade and the other in dark habano and smoke'em....

As for the Larry story, no disrespect but I think using FX Smith CT Shade as "what shade should look like" is shooting low in terms of size and fragility. He should see some Jorge CT Shade. Gigantar and super stretchy. But of course then he'd have to shell out $75.

Yeah, the shippers are the winners in all of this. It's amazing.
