For my first time, I got a huge hit of "bottom of the lawn mower deck" smell when I opened a new bag of leaf.

To be honest, I've had it for a while without opening g it. Figured it was safe in that vacuum sealed bag.
Tore off the ends that look funky. It's funny the tips are dry while the stems are flexible.
Anyone else get this smell before?

That dominican binder can smell funky. Spritz it and air it out. Should be fine.

Yes.
Leaf I have was too wet for too long had the same smell you describe. I’m pretty sure it’s the smell of rotting leaf. On mine, there were some places on various leaf that had rotted.
I salvaged what I could and tossed the rest.

Leaf storage is a fickle thing. Too wet with the right temperature and it molds. Too wet and the right temperature and it rots. Too dry and it can’t be handled without turning to dust.

Well, now I am up to 4 coolers stuffed with leaf. This is from Larry aka Big Bonner :
silver river, PA wrapper, bright leaf orangey, burley aged, NDB (Nostrano del Berenta), Habano, big Havana, corojo 99 , and some samples he threw in of PA filler, CT shade sun grown organic, Penn red, and Havana 901

The Jalapa is really good and has no back of the throat pepper / aftertaste

At 3 months Age in a stick I think it’s great. So good I got 3 pounds of it.
