"the average cigar smoker is not their target audience."

To be honest with you, I don't believe they ever were!

I read CA cover to cover and have subscribed for years. It has always been targeted at the cigar smoker but then the cigar smoker used to be the affluent. Sports cars, watches, and expensive goodies plus top class cigars are the genre. I find it fun to read their revues biased as they may be. Like everything else in life, take it with a grain of salt and for entertainment value.

I don't let any magazine tell me what is good or anyone else for that matter. Marketing wants to tell people what to smoke, what to wear, how to look,,etc etc. I am sick to death of Madison Avenue always telling me who I am or what I am about. I think I know what I like and cigars are a matter of personal taste. I enjoy cigar magazines for the entertainment value,,,not what they tell me to do.

I kinda think of CA like the Playboy magazine... except no naked girls... and no jokes... and no short stories... and the tech reviews suck... and no sports besides golf... but besides all that... ok, I see, forget it....

I don't read it because for me, it's easier to check out the guys here who have blogs that I can go through and get a sense that they have similar taste in cigars as I do. When I find someone who likes the same cigars as me, I can take their reviews more in stride.

I pick up a copy from time to time. It's really stupid for me to spend money on it because they have them down at the cigar shop just sitting around. Rarely read a magazine there, though. Mostly there to visit so why bury my nose in a magazine?

I'm not a magazine guy. The only think I might consider is an online subscription, but they cost a lot I think. Maybe if I could do a group-split of an online sub I'd go in on it.

I had a gifted subscription for a year, and while it's a very pretty and very high quality magazine, it didn't cater to me, my tastes, or my interests AT ALL. That goes for both the lifestyle aspect and the cigar info.

When I was working at the B&M, at least 50% of the people that purchased the magazine bought it because of who was on the cover!

The MJ and Soprano cover's were two of the highest selling issues, I do believe,

Well that settles it. I won't subscribe. Though, I do enjoy some of their videos on the website.

It's like playboy magazine. Tons of articles and ads that aren't related to the actual content. Then there is about 20 pages covering what you were hoping to get 164 pages of.

Actually, I like CA alright. Some of the contents seem overdone, yet it can serve as a general guide to something you haven't picked up yet. I prefer their website.

Cigar Magazine and Cigar Press are far more interesting to me IMO
