does it matter, you either enjoy the cigars or you don't...
this might be out of line ad if it is i am sorry but ae you muslim? i was wondering with the name of the cigar company.
Dear friend,

Sultan is a noble name of almost muslim kingdom, i took sultan name as my band because of this cigar originally made for King of Java (Java Kingdom) exclusively diplomatic use only. Java Kingdom was born as Muslim kingdom, that's why the noble name of our king is SULTAN :)

We Christian familly who live in muslim neighbourhood, i believe cigar is a kind of love and peaceful, can cross the border of area, country, religion, and nationality.

LOVE, PEACE, HAPPYNESS WITH SMOKING SULTAN!

Best regards,
Ferry

Sultan Churchill Review

Much like the robusto, the churchill sports impeccable construction. The cigar has minimal veins and a light oil sheen on the wrapper; it's also rock hard with little to no give when squeezed. The burn was amazing, leaving solid ash hanging for about an inch and a half. The draw, however, left much to be desired...

The same flavors are present obviously -- oak, sweet tobacco, a sprinkle of a white pepper note. Though, I found the churchill to be a little "grassier" in flavor than the robusto.

Another trait it shared with the robusto is the extremely tight draw. It reminded me of a very thick milk shake. It wasn't until about halfway through the stogie before it opened up a little bit, letting off just enough smoke to satisfy me.

The flavors the Sultan churchill gives off are great, but they'd be better enjoyed with a good draw. I can't fully enjoy a good cigar if I'm puffing on it so hard that I get lightheaded.

Perhaps I got a bum stick. I'll be interested in reading others' reviews and experiences.

Thanks to Yan and Ron for the stogie.

Today me and a friend who is one of the biggest name in wine here in Sweden and has pallets most of us dream sat down to review the Sultan Robusto!
Ill keep it short:

It looks good, really good and I would say it reminds me of a Davidoff stick since it is pretty much flawless. I dont like that it says longfiller on the band but besides that the green goes great with the cigar.

We cut the cigar and both of the sticks are underfilled and the draw on both is very very loose!
The first few puffs you can hint some pepper, chocklad and i would say hay a buttery taste that reminded us of a young bolivar without the komplexity of the Boli.

The first third is ok but the fact that it is to loose is ruining the experience. It is a medium-mild cigar and we keep puffing and puffing waiting for the Robusto to show its potential but sadly not much happenes. I had to re light the cigar twice.
I do enjoy mild cigars but I cant find potetial in this cigar, it just lacks flavors and balance.
It just failed to keep us intrested and that is what we looked for in this cigar. a journey that keeps you wanting more.

The last third was just hot and tasted warm hay!

I would rate this cigar 73 and Robert gave it 75 (on a scale to 100) but non of us can see potential with aging them.

Sultan Cigars are made on the Indonesian island of Java; the company has been in existence for over 30 years and was the exclusive cigar maker for the king of Java, but now produce cigars for the general public.

Wrapper: Besuki, Java
Binder: Besuki, Java
Filler: Besuki, Java
Price: gift from Sultan Cigars for review ($8)

Weather: 75 degrees; 84% humidity
Libation: water
Other aspects: cut with a Palio cutter; lit with a Zippo Z-plus insert by Blazer

Pre-Smoke
Appearance: smooth, velvety texture; minimal veins
Wrapper Color: light tan with some mottling
Feel: firm
Scent of wrapper/foot: faint tobacco
Flavor on Draw: faint tobacco

Smoke
Taste - initial 3rd: noted a distinct floral flavor with a hint of ginger and pine-nut; this is a very unique taste that I actually find enjoyable
Taste - middle 3rd: slightly floral still, but wood flavors begin to develop
Taste - final 3rd: pine-nut and wood are the dominant flavors; the floral flavor has dissipated
Strength: mild
Feeling: dry
Smoke: thin, wispy smoke
Draw: moderately tight
Finish: sweet floral
Construction: consistent canoe on one side that required touching up for first half; ash dropped at about every 1 inch

Like It: OK
Buy It Again: likely
Recommend It: yes, if flavor profile interests the smoker

FINAL VERDICT - this was a cigar with a very unique flavor, one that I've never experienced. I did enjoy it. However, the draw was much tighter than I would like; looking at the foot prior to lighting revealed a very packed cigar. The burn was suboptimal, but I can't make a final judgement on burn characteristics with just one cigar. I would be interested in trying more.

Ben,

I really apprreciate your review, you give me some good input for development. Yes...you fulfill your promise with giving honest review, and i really thanks you did that! :) No argue for what you said, you have own feel, own taste that cannot argue at all.

I hope you try the bolder of sultan, sultan signature.. which will be release on December 2010/Hanuary 2011.

Thanks again Ben.

Thanks for the additional information. I took the cigar down to about 1.5 inches.

Alright...it is raining...wife is at work...and son is sleeping! Perfect! Here are my impressions of the Sutlan Churchill:

Rolling Week: 48 2009
Released Week: 23 2010
I had a three pack plus the one Ron gave to me for the review...so I forgot to open the bag from Ron in my humi. So to ensure humi is right for the stick...I took one from the 3 pack...hence rolling and release date above. P.S....very cool bit of info right on the box hand written!

Appearance: Nice light brown wrapper that reminds me of a creamy chocolate. There is a couple veins that are present and you can see how the leaf was rolled on the cigar due to it creating a little bit of a barber pole effect. Normally I would discount a cigar maker on this...but it is perfectly spaced...with straight lines...kinda cool.

Prelight:
Nice cut right through the double cap. First smell and taste has a light tobacco essence with a bit of tea flavor right at the tip of the tongue. The draw is a bit tight...but still appears to be manageable at this point.

1/3:
Right off the start I am hit with the same flavors that I saw in the pre draw. A bit of tobacco...a bit of tea...and a taste that I am very fimiliar with but just cannot put my finger on it. Like a sweat bread...or almost a mild cucumber taste. I know that sounds odd...but that it what it is triggering to me. The smoke is very light. Enjoyable...especially with how humid out it is. Almost feels like the smoke is lighter that the actual air that surrounds it:)

2/3:
Very similar to the first third. There is a bit of spice that has picked up with the start of the 2nd third...but still a great taste. So I am kinda zoning in on the taste that I could not pick...almost like a sun tea with a bit of sugar and lemon. Very good taste and refreshing.

3/3:
This has been one of the most even keeled cigars I have smoked. With a long as it has burned not a lot of ups and downs. Just a straight on taste with no interruptions. The taste is like no other cigar out there. The tea presence is amazing and really refreshing. The final third just brought all of that together and into perspective. It is like a good friend who is great to talk to once and awhile and catch up.

With how hot it has been up here lately it has been hard at times to smoke some of my stronger cigars. They are just not as appealing. This was a very nice and refreshing stick! Just a nice relaxing day enjoying a great cigar! The tea taste is like nothing I have ever smoked and would recommend that yall try one out. I have a feeling it is not for everyone...but it is a great change that the majority of the population would enjoy!

Ditto, I was very impressed by this touch on the boxes as well - I meant to mention that. Still haven't fired my churchill yet but I'm looking forward to it for monday or tuesday.

Churchill

Weather:
95 degrees
32% RH
10 mph wind from the East
Clear and sunny

Drink:
Water

First impression:
Light brown wrapper mottled with lightly darker brown spotting
Small to medium veins.
Tightly rolled, no soft spots to be found

Pre light:
The stick had a mild grass aroma from the body with a sweeter grass smell at the foot.
I used a Palio, with a Dickman cut but the draw was very tight. I cut the cap but it did not help the draw at all.
I knew I would be having some trouble at this point but decided to go ahead without using the draw poker.

The light:
I used a Vector lighter containing triple refined butane and dual flame.

First draw:
Light pepper some leather and barnyard notes.

1/3:
Pepper fades hint of sweet cream, leather. Smoke production medium draw stays very tight
Mild to medium bodied
Ash light gray, flakey and falls about an inch and a quarter in
Burn was uneven with slight canoeing.

2/3:
Sweet cream lingers and some grass. Draw very tight.
More on the mild side
Ash turning slightly whiter with less flaking
After minor correction burn, although not perfect, seems better and falls about inch and a half in.

Final 3rd
Due to the very tight draw, the smoke getting very hot and having burn issues (had to relight multiple times). I had to conclude during the final third and put it down to die.
This is where I had to shut her down!:sadpace: Total smoke time 52 minutes

Conclusion:
Due to the very tight draw I did the best possible to give this somewhat of a fair review.
Although mild cigars are not my cup of tea, this would work great in the rotation for those that do.
Thanks to Ron and the Sultan producers for giving me this opportunity and breaking my review cherry.

Hi Jjon,

First of all, thanks for the great review. The great review was not only reviewing the good things, but also the bad things founded. I really appreciate your fair review.

So far I found 2 burn issues on Churchill:"too tight to draw" This issue will be a good input point to be taken on meeting desk with my team.

Really sorry for the problem you got, but sure this issue will get very important attention.
