• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Pics of Your Sticks

I've always wanted to smoke and roll but I do most of my rolling in the winter and I don't smoke indoors. Even in the summer I roll indoors because the heat and humidity would play havoc on my leaf outdoors.

    Pics of Your Sticks

I've been rolling for a few years but I only roll once every few months. It's hard to find free time and when I do I usually use it to smoke instead of roll. Here are four I rolled yesterday. I'm not happy with the heads. I'll have to try to roll more often.

Hey Bliss, not only can you roll a mean cigar, you also write really well. This was hilarious, a real joy to read. Thanks.

"Book method". I've heard the term but didn't know what it meant. Does anyone have an opinion on this method? Pros and cons?

    Here goes nothing.

Fusion555 posted a video in this thread showing a method of bunching I've never seen before. Instead of the tubo or the fan-fold method, he simply folded the flat bunch in half and rolled from there. It looks like it would work well. There should be a good draw and it very easy to get the...

Question for all the FOGs around

Holy Crap.... some of you guys have amazing memories. I've been smoking cigars since I was 16 but only got serious about it 10 years ago (I'm now 60). I know I started with Old Port Untipped but I don't remember anything I smoked between 1975 and 2005. A cigar was a cigar. I only started...

    Here goes nothing.

I cut brown paper into about 3/4" wide stripes and wrap it tight around like the wrapper leaf. Don't use too wide a strip because it won't wrap as tight. Let it sit for 30 minutes or longer. The result is that all the veins and wrinkles are pressed flat just like using a mold. I've used a...

    Here goes nothing.

Two bits of advice (for what it's worth). First, do what Brewholligan said and use the paper strips instead of molds. I struggled with molds for a couple of years before discovering the paper strips. They work great! Second, I think you'll find the blends that WLT recommends for the kits...

    Good Humidors?

I understand that tupperware won't cut it. I've been into cigars for several years and now it's all about function over looks, but when I first got involved I too wanted a glass top. They really are beautiful. The problem, as everyone states, is that they are very difficult to maintain the...

how long will vacuum seal last?

My concern is mold. I used to let my leaf dry out for long term storage but I was concerned about what that did to the leaf. Now I use a cooler for storage and try to keep the leaf just a bit flexible but I have had some issues with a bit of mold. The leaf in the vacuum bags is flexible...

how long will vacuum seal last?

I bought a couple of kits from Whole Leaf a couple of months ago. They came vacuum sealed as usual. I opened one kit and rolled a few. I decided to keep the other kit in the vacuum sealed bag until I needed it but my rolling has been sporadic lately so my question is, how long can I keep the...

    Unhumidified Cigars

Yeah, I think they were humidified in the air. If the environment is around 65 - 70% RH then they can last forever. When I buy cigars in Cuba I never worry about not keeping them in a humidor. That country is one giant humidor.

Dear Mr. Remixoligist, thanks for the photos. I stand in awe!

My biggest improvement was when I learned that proper leaf casing allowed me to roll cigars with consistent draw instead of most of them being plugged. Filler that is too wet will stick together when rolled and hamper the air flow even after it dries out.

    Embr?

I doesn't look like a viable business, but then again, if the plan is to just make a bit of cash and have some fun then it may work great. The start-up costs are a web page and a bunch of tobacco. I assume there are no salaries paid and everyone works piece work. Though their web page says...

Cigar review from that new guy

Thanks for the review. In the future there is a specific place on this forum for cigar reviews.

I think this thread ( at least the original post) should be a "sticky".

    Does punching intensify flavors?

Last year I got into the habit of using a punch instead of a cutter. I really enjoy the way the shoulder of the cigar is preserved when using a punch and that the result is a nicer feel in the mouth. I last night I had a cigar that seemed to be a bit stronger than I remembered. I was...

    Lid for Stinky Ashtray?

For the benefit of the newbs, if you want to reduce the stink don't extinguish your cigar. Just put it in the ashtray and let it go out, which it will in a couple of minutes. This is good etiquette when smoking with others.
