BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Dude, plume doesn't grow through the cello!
That's a beautiful cigar. It would be a shame to not smoke it but there is a way to make $250 from it. Just send it in to the the mold study that is being undertaken and if it isn't mold or bacteria then you get $250. They haven't found one yet but maybe you've got one. Here's a link to the... -

Humidity Issues
Here's my suggestion. The boxes are likely the same RH as the cigars that are in them. Maybe there are a bit too dry and will affect your humidor environment but only for a short time (days or weeks??). I would just put them in and throw a couple of Bovedas into each box. Leave the box lids... -

Why use distilled water
I used to do rehydrate Bovedas like that but someone told me that water doesn't bother them. I tried it and it's true. So now I just dunk them in a bowl of "distilled" water for a few hours. I've done it several times with no problems. -

Rehydrating Bovedas
I just drop my dry Boveda pack into a dish of distilled water, leave it for a few hours and it is good to go. The exterior is not affected by the water. It's fast and easy. Don't have to make it complicated. -
Calibrated?
When I open the door to my winador the hygrometers react almost instantly. The air in my house during the winter is around 30% RH so the readings drop quickly. BUT, when I calibrate them in a bag with a Boveda it takes about 12 hours before they stabilize. They respond quickly but it takes a... -

Robusto is my favorite size, primarily because it doesn't take as long to smoke. I thought I was slow but I only get about 45 minutes, an hour if I'm lucky. I don't know how you keep a Robusto lit for 90 minutes ! -

cigar quality in Cuba is not great
The hurricane hit the southern end of the island and did major damage there. We were staying in Varadaro which is near Havana. There was damage there but not sever. The tobacco growing region in at the top of the island and was not affected. The crop is supposed to be excellent this year. -
re-wraps
I've had success re-wrapping. I rolled some last year that were too tight (the filler was too wet when rolled). I sliced the wrapper and binder with an exacto knife and I re-rolled them. It was messy because the filler was now a bit too dry and it didn't want to stay together, but it did...- Bruce T.
