• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Guys do yourselves a favor and set up a solid macro split. Yes not all calories are created equal but to an extent they are. By managing your macros you pick and choose what to burn your calories on granted its gotta fit your macros. Ive been eating gummy bears post workout (for glycogen...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Half a yeast cake for 5 gal of beer is a big pitch if thats what your saying. 1/3 a cake ferments my Berliners out pretty quick in some hostile conditions.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

So Ive been reading about this low oxygen stuff for a bit and decided to give one of the techniques a try. The idea is to add dry yeast(13g) and a small amount of sugar(13g DME or 7g dextrose) to the mash water(8gal), then waiting ~30 mins, to scavenge the oxygen and bring the DO levels down. I...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Arnold Palmer Berliner kegged today! I ended up using Lipton Cold Brew packets and a product called Pure Lemon. I made a pitcher of half/half I liked then scaled those 1/2gal numbers up to 2 1/2gal. The thinking being a half strength batch would be noticeable but not overwhelming especially once...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

You've been at it longer than me. Im coming up on around a dozen batches in the past few months though lol. So far the best 2 I've done have been watermelon and passionfruit. Passionfruit being my personal favorite. I'm hoping this Arnold Palmer version takes the cake though if I can get the...

You can edit all of those things to whatever you'd like too so you can really personalize it. I like my split heavier on protein than the default which is more carb heavy.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Without looking at actual numbers it looks about right. If I use a 60min addition I aim to pull about 1/3 the IBU from there and leave the rest for hop bursting. That gives the beer enough legit bitterness to balance the malt but leaves plenty space to load up on the smoother late kettle additions.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

People use all sorts of different temps from flameout down to the 150s. Sometimes you'll hear them called hop stands. I like what they bring to the table but I like to pair them with late kettle additions. The bitterness can be so smooth that sometimes the beer ends up a bit sweet but a good...

I can't help but ask... are you sure you want to add the chips that early? I'd be concerned with scorching during the boil though I've never used chips so I don't know if it'll make a difference.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Gotta love those beers. You know going in its either going to be gold or getting dumped lol. Ive learned that a lot of breweries dump way more stuff than people probably know. I used to think these guys were so talented they just nailed all this stuff but in reality a lot goes down the drain...

@boltman I know calcium is good, especially for flowering plants, but do you think the sulfate might have to do with it as well? I see epsom salt referenced a lot for peppers that won't set fruit amongst other benefits. Calcium sulfate(gypsum)... magnesium sulfate(epsom salt)... Im wondering if...
