• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Semi-auto Storage?

I carry my Kel-Tec with a full magazine, cocked, with one in the chamber. When I put it away for the night, I usually leave it that way. However, I wonder whether it would be better in terms of wear and tear to pull the magazine, eject the round from the chamber, and dry-fire it. Which does...

    Best Cutters?

Yeah, but I also like having the corkscrew. Life is full of compromises... :eyebrow:

    Best Cutters?

I have the same SAK, and it's excellent. I just wish it were thinner and lighter...

    Best Cutters?

I forgot that you asked about big ring gauge cutters. I got a Colibri Slyce specifically to handle big cigars. They say it can cut up to a 64 RG, and I suspect you could actually go a bit bigger if needed. I don't use it all the time, but so far, so good..

    Best Cutters?

Before you give up on your current cutter, take a Q-tip, dip it in alcohol, and rub the cutting surfaces of the blades. You might find that it starts working like new again. Or just buy a Palio. Or Xikar. Or SAK... :cbig:

    Got a Palio Cutter

Yup. BTW, how much of the cap are you trying to cut off? While it's possible that you got a defective Palio, it's pretty unlikely. Before you send it back, take a Q-tip dipped in alcohol and rub the cutting surfaces. Then try it. If it still is problematic, send it back to Palio. If you...

But it IS elegant, I bet.

    Elegant Cigar Lighter

All of the suggestions are good ones, but just to keep things interesting, let me add a couple of options. First, Vector makes a soft-flame, flint wheel butane insert for Zippo lighters called the Thunderbird. If you have a Zippo that you like, that's the cheapest way to get a good soft flame...

    cigar draw poker

I use bamboo barbecue skewers that you can buy in packs of probably 100 at the supermarket. I keep one in each of my cigar cases, traveldors and humidors and just replace them if they break. Works great.

    What's a good CHEAP lighter?

Zippo with Vector soft flame insert.

    In need of a lighter

The Xikar Exodus series are nice and really hefty. I have one, and I like it. However, I prefer a Zippo with a Vector soft flame insert. And in all seriousness, Djeeps are disposable soft flame lighters with a really big, adjustable flame and a huge fuel supply. All for about 2 bucks. I...

    A question of size

I like 'em big and fat. 60 ring gauge is just fine, but I usually end up in the 50's, and 7" is ideal.

    air purifier for car

IME, they don't work well. The good news is that I don't think they're necessary. Here is the trick: 1. Crack open the driver's side window 1-2" and leave all other windows and the sunroof closed. 2. Set your HVAC system so that it is bringing in fresh air (not recirculating) and so that...

    Pocket Pistols

I just saw a picture of a Pachmayr grip for Kel-Tec P32's and 3AT's (Pachmayr #05176 Tactical Grip Glove for Kel-Tec P-3AT P-32). I generally like their grips and have one on my Colt Agent. I am concerned that, on a pocket pistol, it would tend to grab the fabric and make it harder to draw...

    Pocket Pistols

Yup. I just ordered one that has a detachable rectangular flat panel on one side to prevent gun printing, and a small holster on the other side to hold the gun in position.

Converting a closet into a humidor (Completed)

I'm sure you know this, but you can't use regular cedar for this. It has to be Spanish Cedar, which is actually a variety of mahogany. Regular cedar has way too strong an odor.

Thanks Laguna Woods California!!! Residential Smoking ban coming

It ain't just left wing, it ain't just CA, and it ain't just the USA. This stuff is happening all over the world, and we have to fight back whenever and wherever we can.

    12 Gauge Pump Recommendations?

Haven't really thought about it. We have handguns, and she really seems to want a shotgun. Since she's letting me get a couple more handguns, I'm not gonna argue. :halfgrinw
