• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Dr. Joe Show: The Embargo Series

Dr. Joe Show has really settled some of the biggest questions and concerns I've had about this whole embargo thing. He really hits all the major points that concerned me. Relax, Habanophiles, it seems like nothing is going to change for a long time to come! Phew! Here's the first in a five part...

Dr. Joe Show debunks Dave Garafallo

The Dr. Joe Show rocks!!! That Embargo series was awesome! Thanks, Tennessee Dave. He makes some clear and obvious observations. Really eased my mind about this whole embargo thing. He's offered the best explanation yet.

    Building a walk-in

18 degrees C is perfect. A lot of guys like 65/65 for aging cigars. Because the exterior wall is below ground level, you are fine. You also have the concrete wall as a buffer as well. You may need to boost humidity in the winter to around 80% Rh because of the cooler air in the room. But I do...

    Building a walk-in

So behind the bricks there is no insulation? The wall is not insulated? There is no buffer between the exterior of the house and the interior? EDIT: I looked at the old pictures. Is this space in the basement, below ground level? It looks like you have a solid concrete wall/foundation behind...

So it drops below freezing in the winter. Yes, that wall will be like an iceblock next to the cigars. Something like this might work, but you'll need to wire the thermostat to it...

    Building a walk-in

Honestly, that temperature right now is perfect. Is there insulation between exterior wall and the brick wall? If so, you should be okay. What's the lowest temperature in winter? And how long does winter usually last for you? You may lose a 5-10% RH in winter cold air. But I wouldn't worry about...

    New Cigar Trays

I let the RH climb to 75. It took three days. Started at 50% and the trays sucked up a ton of humidity. Dropped them into the Tupperdor, and RH dropped from 68% to 64%. That's fine. It'll come back up. Thanks for all the great advice. This forum rocks!

    Interesting Take On Cuban Cigars

Here's Garafolo's explanation for his article, his findings, etc.. I'm still not quite sure what the hell he's talking about. It begins at 21:00-41:00. Judge for yourselves.

    New Cigar Trays

No worries, man. Lumber Liquidators should be closed permanently. That is a fraudulent company. I think the formaldehyde is used in the flooring to preserve the wood. Here's a quote from a report in Men's Journal on formaldehyde in wood from China: "...the only way to be absolutely certain...

    Interesting Take On Cuban Cigars

I hate to beat a dead horse here, but I finally had the chance to watch Dave Garafolo's entire radio broadcast on Youtube to the bitter end. And I do mean 'bitter'. I won't comment anymore on his statements, because I've said everything I wanted to. But judge for yourselves. Is this man the type...

    New Cigar Trays

Hmmm? I can't say about the ones on Alibaba.com. But the ones from Cheaphumidors.com were made in China too. I thought just the flooring wood had the formaldehyde in it. Could the Spanish cedar in these trays have it as well?
