Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
Love fishing for catfish! They get me through the slow spring fishing season around here. This was two weeks ago with my cousin. Fished all afternoon in the rain, but had a great time. View attachment 63814
A trick we would use in Oregon catching fish from warmer water that tasted kida dirty or fishy would be to soak the fillets overnight in some salt water. It draws out the impurities and firms up the flesh some. Now, most people don't fillet catfish, but I do.Awesome haul. Those look like the good tasting size. When we catch them we find the smaller ones taste the best. Not as "fishy" as the kids call it.

Thanks! Yeah, we prefer the smaller fish as well.Awesome haul. Those look like the good tasting size. When we catch them we find the smaller ones taste the best. Not as "fishy" as the kids call it.
We do this as well. I fillet the fish, soak, then cube, spice, and vacuum pack in different sizes for different events. When your ready for a fish fry, just unthaw, bread, fry and enjoy. I feel the smaller nuggets helps with the fishy taste as well.A trick we would use in Oregon catching fish from warmer water that tasted kida dirty or fishy would be to soak the fillets overnight in some salt water. Either that or freeze in a solution of salt water to save a step.So you guys soak overnight before freezing? If you are freezing them.
You should. I do it for parties and cookouts and it's amazing how fast they disappear. If you want the simple recipe, drop me a pm.Will have to try the cubed nuggets.

No, they were caught in the Pamunkey River. Not sure if I'd eat any fish out of the James River.Nice fish, brother! Fishing the James?
Last Friday a friend of mine dropped off a fresh blue cat he caught on the Wicomico River here in So. MD. Filleted and blackend seasoning and pan seared....yum!
I feel your pain, brother!I really enjoy fishing but the young family and move ( trying to sell a house ) have meant my lures haven't seen a drop of water.
Nice setup! I love Alaska and look forward to going back soon. I spent a week in the summer of 2011 fishing the Aniak River with my wife, mom, and dad. One of the best weeks of my life and we caught a lot of fish. I'll have to post up some of the pictures from that trip soon.I'm a recovering bass fisherman from down South. I occasionally fish for salmon and halibut, of course but I'm mostly a trout bum these days. I like to relax in my "easy chair" on local lakes:

I'm envious. I spent 11 years in Fairbanks/Fort Wainwright. The fishing and hunting were phenomenal from Homer all the way up almost to Prudhoe Bay. You can never do to much of either.I'm a recovering bass fisherman from down South. I occasionally fish for salmon and halibut, of course but I'm mostly a trout bum these days. Walleye are good eatin'I have stepped up my fishing game the past month. We fished a local lake and got into a pretty good catch of walleyes. I've been motivated enough I even bought a new baitcaster after all these years.
