I've used every type of cutter ( except Palio). I still use a punch for large gauges and still use a Xikar double blade pretty often. A few months ago I bought a V-cutter for $ 3 and I love it. However, I usually use whichever I can find first.

I punch my cigars 95% of the time. I bought a good Xikar punch. When I need/want to, I cut them with a pair of Xikar scissors. I also own a v-cutter that I'll use from time to time, I think of it as being kind of a novelty.

I'm saving up for a nice Palio cutter though, the local shop has one in Realtree camo that fully kicks ass!

I prefer using my Xikar Xi (and use it probably 95% of the time), but a crisp punch on a petit corona/corona is always really nice.

I'd like to get a Palio in the future, but I'm poor...lol

I use a Xikar scissor most of the time. Recently purchased. I like the bigger surface area for smoking

I like using my "V" cutter. I have a tabletop that makes really clean cuts. Sometimes I do get the little pieces of tobacco...but that's part of the deal.

Most of the time I use my Xikar Wolf V Cutter, otherwise it's a Double Blade Guillotine (Xikar, of course!)
You ever try using that on a cigar with a tapered head?

When I don't use a double blade I usually make a V cut with a pocket knife. It ends in disaster maybe just slightly less often than you'd expect.

I use my Xikar Double Blade. Mostly because I paid an exuberant amount for it.

Plus I like it.

I like the punch because my cigar always seems to unravel when I cut it.

I feel like sometimes I get a better quality of smoke from a V Cut, although I have to real rationale for liking it I do lol.

Try and get the Tatuaje cutter. It makes sure ye don't cut much off so it doesn't unravel. Or, if using a "flat and thin" cutter (unlike Palio or XiKar), stand the cigar upright so the table serves as a limit to how much ye cut.
