  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Guillotine, V-cut, or punch?

I have been a punch guy for well over 10 years now, with the exception of the double bladed guillotine for cigars that a punch won't work on. Although I have to say that after seeing Bill with the scissor last week at the HERF and him saying how much he liked it I am thinking about picking on up on my way through PA next week. Going to pass right by the CI next to Cabelas on 78 and I haven't been in there yet, so this gives me an excuse to by something...and grab more sticks!

Spring strong sweet tall green grass grow...
Anyone use the scissor things?? I have a pair but nervous to f up a stick...
I've used the Xikar foldable scissor a couple times and it was a great cut, very sharp edges.
I'm going to try this thing and see what happens

My Xikar scissors are pretty much all I use. Maybe it's just the geeky Swiss Army Knife aspect, but it's my favorite. I believe there was a quote from someone about how "it really works the balls." :eyebrow:
I have a nice Xi3, but keep coming back to the scissors.
I wanted to love that cheap Amazon v-cutter, but it seems to always mangle more than cut. I plan to disassemble and sharpen it, but I might just break down and grab the Xikar V some day instead.

I'm a big V cutter fan. I have 4 of them and have never had an issue carrying on the airplane, domestic or international flights.

This Colibri is the latest one and has a reverse V to it. Great cutter.

I have two of these wooden ones. Until a month ago it was my daily cutter for almost 4 years. It's a Chinese knock-off of the Lil' Boston cutter which runs about $100. I paid $10 for one of them and $17 for the other.

I also have a Wolfe reverse v-cutter. It's a plastic case model very similar to the Xikar v-cutter. Good and cheap cutter.

For what it's worth, I typically travel with at least one guillotine cutter and one V-cutter. Neither have given me security issues at airports.

I use all three as well.

When using my Xikar straight cut, set it on the table, stand cigar up vertical and in the opening and pinch it closed. Consistent even cut everytime.

When traveling, my teeth works wonders. :)

I just picked up one of these colibri cutters. Never been a big v cut person but like it for smaller ring gauges. Holy cow I like this thing. I've been using it for larger ring gauges now too.

I don't know if I told you yesterday (I know I told Bill about it), but I wound up picking up one of the Xikar multi-tool folding scissors last week. I'm going to give it a shot again, but I'm still partial to a punch.

I'm looking into the Xikar 11mm punch. For reasons. I don't smoke 70-80 ring gauges after having that asylum lock jaw pack.

Would I have a big ring gauge like that again? Yes. The cutter apparently comes in handy for those bigger sizes.

Would I do another lock jaw pack? Maybe. Can't have that many big ring gauge cigars back to back. Lol.

Rarely smoke anything larger than a 50 rg and V-cutters work well and are my preference. Have a couple of cheaper no-names and one each of the Xikar V-cutters in gunmetal and silver.
Little experience with punch cutters; think more practice will make me more comfortable with them.
Somewhere have a Palio but don't use it much at all, though it seems to work well. New to the arsenal is a stainless Cuban Crafter "Perfect" cutter; not sure if I like it a lot or just a little.
Have invested too much in all these variants. Sometimes think the money would have been better spent on a box or two of smokes; in any case, if/when a Xikar multi-tool is acquired, it
will be the last $$ spent on a cutter for now.

It's pretty awesome, isn't it? I don't even know where I put my wooden ones as this thing hadn't left my side from the first cut!

I pulled the trigger on a pair of the Xikar MTX scissors about 6 - 8 weeks ago and I've not looked back. My other cutters are gathering dust in my accessories box now. I *highly* recommend the scissors!
