High above the Mucky Muck!
I found this info for you...hope it helps your out on your quest for your HDTV.

Thus the ratio of the luminosity of the brightest and the darkest color the system is capable of producing simultaneously at any instant of time is called static contrast ratio, while the ratio of the luminosity of the brightest and the darkest color the system is capable of producing over time is called dynamic contrast ratio.
And then this....

If the display is plasma, a given static ratio will show superior contrast to LCD display of the same contrast ratio.

It is also common to market only the dynamic contrast ratio capability of a display (when it is supported), which should not be directly compared to the static contrast ratio. A plasma display with a static 5000:1 contrast ratio will show superior contrast to an LCD display with 5000:1 dynamic and 1000:1 static contrast ratio when the input signal contains full range of brightnesses from 0 to 100% simultaneously. However they will be on par when input signal ranges only from 0 to 20% brightness.

Just in case you missed it on my last post:

If you decide to spend the money, the Sharp 42" I mentioned is the LC-42D64U and is currently $1,499 at Circuit City. That's a substantial savings as it runs around $1,800 typically (see BestBuy for instance). CC also has a bundle deal that adds a mount and HDMI cable for $70. This is a web only deal and that's not bad pricing for a mountand HDMI cable. <----this part of the deal may no longer be valid* Throw in one of their multiple Home Theater systems with a built in up-converting DVD player for under $300 and you are at right around $1900. Throw in the Blu-Ray or PS3 you want and you are still under the total you mention above.

Just figured I'd throw this back out there as I saw your $2700 total elsewhere.

Circuit City also offers the Samsung 40" LNT4061F LCD with the Samsung Home Theater in a Box HTX70 for $1699 right now.

On the humungo-wall-of-every-tv-known-to-man at Circuit City, to my eyes that Samsung had the best 40"-42" picture of them all. I stared at every one including the Sony and Sharp in question and kept on coming back to the Samsung. Back home to do research, the Samsung models got great reviews online as well.

I ended up getting the next model up, the 4065, with the glossy screen (vs. the 4061's matte screen) from Crutchfield on a open box deal for the same price as the 4061. Not a scratch onm it. DishHD guy is coming Thursday to hook me up.

I am also a Packers fan, born and raised in Wisconsin :-D

And the Holiday craziness continues. From www.dealcatcher.com:

Samsung 46-inch 1080p LCD HDTV + Free Harmony 550 Remote + $100 GC to NFLShop
$1,529.98 with Free Shipping
Great deal for this hdtv! Not only is the hdtv a great price, but you get a nice remote and $100 to spend at NFLShop. I just bought this hdtv just four days ago for $1,599 without the cool bonuses. I called Amazon and they gave the $70 credit and the free remote. Good news is that if this goes even cheaper in the next 30 days, which I predict it will, just call them up and they'll credit your account.

Features include:
1920 x 1080 (1080p) Resolution
10,000:1 Contrast Ratio
3 HDMI, 2 Component [ Rebate ]

Looks like a good-un! And more than half of what you intended to spend. This could get expensive for you if you keep asking stuff

Excellent choice Wade. You will NOT be dissapointed. And that's a great price (didn't check shipping). And I know it's a flat panel to begin with, but these suckers really are thin. Enjoy!

When are you planning on making the purchase?

The good thing about Amazon is they will match their price for 30 days. It's worth it to check on it every day for 30 days following your purchase because one thing I have noticed, is their prices fluctuate a lot. I have done this with my Christmas shopping this year and received over $200 back just by shooting them a quick email.

If you plan on mounting this on the wall, monoprice.com has great prices (as I mentioned in another post), but if you hurry now and don't mind fronting the $60.00, you can get this wall mount for free.

http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=7303310&Redir=1&description=Atdec-32" - 60" Telehook Universal Flush Mount - Black-Monitor & Projector Accessories

It will cost you $60, but it has a $60 mail in rebate. Just some food for thought.
