Let's have a contest.
My guess is, he was cleaning underneath, rotated the blade, and when he did, it stopped at the compression stroke and his hand kept going.

My dad was working on his pickup years ago, somehow his fingers got tangled up in an alternator belt, I was with him and cut the engine off right away.
He didn't lose any fingers, but there were some deep wounds where the belt rubbed on his fingers, kinda like burned in
Had to get skin grafts and took months to heal.
This was in '86 or '87
