  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

See, that's my issue here. What engineering?

All we have ever been told is that they are engineered...without an explanation of what that is exactly.
Someone has to make them and they make them in a specific manner to perform a specific funtion thus engineered.

MAN, I can't wait until Anderson can speak...payback is a BITCH!

Todd: The earth is round
Anderson: How do you know?
Todd: Because people been around the world
Anderson: Have YOU been around the world?
Todd: Well, no
Anderson: So, then how do you know?

Yes Mark, ingredients in order are Silica Sand, Oxygen, Water. So tell me how much % does oxygen and water make up KL vs beads or to make beads as they are selling them "medical grade"? Please I am in sales. If you want to sell a product, you have to sell price, quality, or service. I am buying KL based on price mostly and the quality is surely not 15 to 1 less quality vs beads folks.

Oh and Todd as much lint as we can hold in the belly, should be closer to 80% RH in my non scientific method of estimating the ol' gut. Mark would be closer to 65%

That's easy...I just tell him "Because".

Or I could SHOW him a satellite image of the Earth and he can SEE for himself.

Gwendolyn actually asks why about something and answers "Because?" herself! :hysterica

I do not know the answer to that question Steve. I think the difference is between amorphous silica and silica sand.

Thanks for all the info Mark, appreciate it. Sounds like it's both a difference in ingredients AND manufacturing process.

As to why Steve's holds different % I can think of a few things.
1) They may have been "set" at a different point by him when he introduced them.
2) As the KL QC is undoubtedly much less than the HF beads you may find that some lots have slightly different set points.

Sounds to me like with either product they are both going to have natural set points and can be conditioned and set for a certain RH. THe question is going to be in how stable they are to keep said set point and how well they adjust back and forth for spikes. Each person will have to make their own decisions on what to use.

Interesting discussion though.

LMAO, no. If you are being serious Shane, check out hte ingredients above. There is a version of this KL with beads for smell, but those are NOT the ones you want. The version everyone is using are just large, round balls of silica. There's nothing in their make up to affect smell.
Yes, I am being serious....is this a stupid question? After all, isn't that the whole f'ing point of kitty litter. Who's the dumb f$%k that would buy kitter litter and not have it control odor?

Well, all the quick searches I've done, each and every one says that this particular kitty litter "ABSORBS" and "TRAPS/ELIMINATES" odor. I'd like for someone to show me how this product does not affect smell. But hey, what do I care. You all are the experts on KL. When I use beads, my RH is rock steady and I get that wonderful smell

Anderson: But Daddy, anyone can use photo shop to make the Earth look round.

Todd: Yes, but this was taken by a satelite from space. It's an actual photo.

Anderson: How do you know there is actually a satelite in space?

Just having some fun with you Todd!!!

I guess you missed my post explaining my thoughts on this earlier.

The smell is in the moisture which is absorbed from the feces/urine...not the air.

If these KL silica beads absorb smell then the RH beads would too...but they don't and I do not think the KL beads will either. Shoot, the empty cigar box I put mine in this weekend still smells like cigars.

Also, I own two cats and there is no way I would trust this KL to work as well as the Tidy Cat clay based KL.

Silica gel manufacturers offer different grades or types of silica gel. Some even have charts that explain how the different types perform, and which type too purchase for a particular need. Is kitty Litter the same as Heartfelt? NO. Dont ask me to prove it. Prove it yourself, the info is out there. If its important to you, the info is all available.

Shane, I using KL beads for cigar RH reasons. The KL company is marketing them for cat piss and cat shit. There is no reason for them to say they desorb cat piss or shit RH or distilled water that I use. The cat will piss or shit usually a LOT more than what little water I need to make these hold a steady RH in a controlled and sealed environment like a cooler. The KL will do its part to absorb what it can in an open environment cat box and it sucks the cat piss inside the beads, thus no smelly piss. At least that is how the KL markets there product. You only need to add very little water to make them hold the RH at that level. The water I add is distilled water as lik beads, the tap water may break them down faster.

Basically Shane is a selling point.

I didn't miss your post Todd.

I asked about whether folks using the KL have noticed any noticeable drop in the smell within their humidor. No one has seemed to answer yet. I'm not even really curious anymore.

Based on what I have seen from others I am convinced (it has been proven to me) that the KL functions so similary and performs the desired function of RH control I am using the Kittly Litter silica beads.

I answered...that is one.

The cigar box I have mine in still smells just as strongly like cigars and cedar that I am convinced it does not absorb the scent any more or less than RH beads.
