I dunno.. when I think of manly beards, they aren't the large ones that drape off your chin. But that's just me. A little shorter than mikes would be perfect to me, though I don't do mustaches.
Haha I don't like mustaches either I just don't like shaving more!

Here was my beard. (I was hanging around my pal's cigar-friendly photo studio... he wanted to play with some new gear so I agreed to smoke in front of the camera...)

I couldn't seem to get it passed that point, so I gave up.

Anybody else have a really crappy beard?
This isn't actually that bad. In fact it's not bad at all. If you removed the mustache (leave the beard) and focused on grooming the lower sides, you could make it a kind of edged look. I know a lot of women that love that type of thing.

I'll keep working it. The more it grows the more red shows. Captain red beard!!!

Oh man, I was feeling pretty good about my prospects in this thread until I saw Griz's post. Nonetheless, from New Year's Eve.

The key to growing a good beard, as an earlier poster said -- DON'T SHAVE.

I've had my goatee since 1994. Actually, I had it a few years before that but shaved it off a couple of times - I've not removed it since '94. I try to grow a full beard once in a while: during the hockey play-offs and during Movember (which, btw, is Latin for "you're in your 40s and will never finish going through puberty, you little bitch!")

But the side will just not come in evenly and full.

I'm pretty sure I grow a shitty beard but I can't make it past the itchy stage to find out.

I have the blindest hair in the world... And the reddest beard. Looks like I've dyed one or both of them.

As a result I stay fairly clean shaven.

I had trouble growing my beard for the first couple months, just getting past the itchy stage was tough. Now that I have it grown in fully, I just wish it would get longer faster. I wonder if I trim the ends like you do your hair, if it grows faster or do you just leave it alone and let it take it course.
