Actually, we wouldn't be having this discussion had Allan not posted the question.

Allan posted the question because of this comment:

Because it seems to me that the only reason you post on this board is to argue with people.

I was just wondering by the way...no need to get defensive.

Even if no offense was intended, you can see how it sounds like

I think if Allan was just posting on the beverage forum, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Just because he managed to aggravate a few of you by posting in the debate forum, doesn't mean you can question whether or not he belongs here.

I think Kingston nailed it on the head. I agree with some of what Allan posts, therefore it doesn't bother me so much. Politics in general strike a nerves with people. I've very rarely seen, on any board, a civil political discussion

I am here to learn more and become well versed in this thing that I do. I have been reading old discussions about cigars to gleen from the experience of others. I have found lots of cool links and things in your old posts with good info, etc. This cigar info may be your old news but its new to me.
So far, I have relied on friends to pick out my cigars because they know better but I am trying to learn more on my own. I may go a week or more without a cigar and then smoke 2 in 2 days.
I am also here to read about the happenings in peoples lives and have a laugh. I don't have many people to talk to here in Mayberry and I enjoy reading the banter of a busy thread.
When I feel more confident in my cigar knowledge, I'll be happy to contribute more. I don't know if I'll ever taste some of the subtle things I've read about, but I'm working on it .

And for the record I still think he is only here to stir things up/argue...especially after this thread...and even more so if it was directed at me because of that quote.

It has been suggested to me by another member that I "rethink" my reason for being here..My smoking habits were even questioned.

I dunno, has anyone else ever been faced with this?

From where i sit, I think it's rude to even suggest such a thing, as if it's anyone's business.

Oh, and in case anyone care..I post on the things that interest me, or where I can make a contribution.

Other members should not matter to you if you feel your where you suppose to be. I have never been faced with it myself. Only my stupid off base humor or lack of sensitivity is questioned and I agree with a smile cause that is what I am about. I do not know you Allan cause I do not visit the debate room and I do not see your post elsewhere that I can recall. I am not here to debate, but to learn everything about cigars and have some fun on this board doing it. I suggest you get some thicker skin and not worry about what other people think.

Seems like two seperate issues to me.

1) Reason for being here, as the title of the thread states.

2) Posting style. And for that the following quote was pertinent as well:

I just don't understand why I was being put under the microscope? To tell the truth, except for a few cases where there were outright attacks on people from people who came here from other boards specifically for that purpose, I can't recall such a level of personal scruitiny...It feels a bit personal...to say the least...

And if this is in response to those particular comments from Todd in that thread, I commend you Allan for not derailing the thread, but why are we hashing it out in THIS thread? IF those comments ARE what started all of this, I would suggest a PM or other private conversation may be in order.

I hear you, but I didn't see anywhere that his smoking habits were questioned so I wasn't connecting the two. And as I said, I read those comments differently.
