I'm in. I'll be there Friday night. Looking for a hotel. Any suggestions Dave?
Give me until Monday.. Im going to go scout out a local park and see if they can accommodate us... If not, Im going to head down to the Smoky Mountain National Forest and check out a pavalion that they rent out (its cheap.. like $50 a day..).. depending on where the venue is that ends up getting selected, Ill give you a recommendation on a hotel.. (there are 4 within 2 miles of the local park I am referring to.. that are probably between $70 and $170 a night)... and tons of options around the national forest.. ranging from camp grounds to cabins to motels to hotels..

What do you guys think about this place?

http://www.recreation.gov/tn/Cosby_Picnic_Pavilion/Campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70917

I just checked the SMNP website.. there are only 3 pavilions still available all day on our date (some others are available for 4 hour blocks.. but thats not really going to work well for us..)..

This one might make the trip a little bit longer for those of you coming from the north (maybe add 45 mins to an hour to your trip depending on where exactly you are coming from).. but.. here are some advantages..

Its less than an hour from Cherokee (Casinos).. its less than an hour from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge (tons of touristy stuff there.. shops (to include a decent cigar shop).. some excellent restaurants.. great scenery, an amusement park, go-karts, museums, etc..).. Its about an hour from Knoxville (several decent to excellent cigar shops, decent downtown area, malls, movies, hotels, etc..)..

My thoughts are a lot of guys are coming from pretty far distances.. which means youre probably going to want "stuff to do" before and after the HERF... This place would put us out in the middle of nowhere, in a beautiful spot in the heart of the smoky mountains.. we can smoke all day.. eat more red meat than any man should in a 10 day period of time... etc.. then when you decide to leave (park closes at dark), there are a wide variety of options available.... you can camp or go to a hotel.. you can go to a casino.. or you can go to a B&M.. you can go race go-karts.. or you can go chill at a museum.. you can stay in "the woods".. or you can head to "the city".. etc..etc..

anyone opposed to Cosby Pavilion?

Just bustin' balls! I look forward to seeing everyone I've met already and the ones I haven't met yet. Even the Canuck (KK33) is coming down from the Great White North!

The Titanic Museum was pretty cool but that's more of a "family" ting. Eat more meat and smoke more cigars.
Only thing is you must be supervised with Rev after dark. I don't know man he thinks i have a "purdy mouth" and he don't play a banjo

I know I didnt give a whole lot of time for anyone to say "nay"... but we appear to be getting a significant number of "yay" in short order.. so I am booking the Cosby Pavilion now (dont want to loose it)..

Save the date, and lock the address into your GPS.. Hillbilly HERF is a GO! :)

Getting There:
GPS Info. (Latitude, Longitude):
35.77139, -83.20722
35°46'17"N, 83°12'26"W

From Cosby, TN, proceed south on TN 32 about 1.5 miles from junction with US 321. Turn right at Cosby sign. Group camp is another 2.2 miles.

Mailing Address:
COSBY PICNIC PAVILION
127 Cosby Park Road
Cosby TN 37722

Ill be there by 0800 at the latest to get the smoker fired up, and get everything organized.. everyone else can get there whenever you like.. we'll have the place from 700 AM until 800 PM... Will plan on having food available from about noon until whenever we all leave.. if you want breakfast.. thats on you.. Ill take care of lunch and dinner though.. as long as youre not a vegetarian.. you should be well fed by the time you leave :)

Sounds good to me ............
i hope to god you don't mean the part about the banjo.
I thought Banjo land was in Kentucky......
i know, right? protecting my heritage, yo! o)

also, dave, big hell yeah to all of this. pavilion should meet our need fine, and anything that can be added to the menu, or any other ancillaries, let me know.

also, don't hate on vegitarians. they are some of my favorite foods.

Since Dave is going to feed us enough meat to choke a lion, I'll bring some cornbread salad...hey, in east Tennessee that counts as a vegetable.
