An accidentally large pour of plain old Maker’s. These two airplane bottles were just sitting there taking up space. This is actually my first time trying regular Maker’s; it’s not bad by any means, but underwhelming and maybe lacking some excitement.

However I’m still really looking forward to soon giving Maker’s Cask Strength.

Just to be clear, it’s not a regular rocks glass lol. It’s a smaller glass that hold about 100ml (two mini bottles). The angle of the photo was more so that you all don’t see my work badge, wallet, glasses wipe, and other crap on my nightstand as I sip this in bed while the wife sleeps lol. Still a strong pour but not really more than if you went to the bottle for a second time.

It is getting a little better as I sip it while watching Billions tho (you all should check this show out if you aren’t already hooked). Here is another shot of the glass for reference:

You're not alone there, I recently had my first pour of standard Maker's and was quite underwhelmed myself. Tasted very corny and had a noticeable amount of ethanol on the nose and palate. The exact opposite of Maker's 46.

So this was weird, I was in a high end whiskey bar in Chicago earlier this week. The bartender said she was required to put one ice cube in every drink. When I asked why, she wasn’t sure but thought it had to do with keeping people less drunk.

Well duh, but it was pretty unsettling. “You can take it out” didn’t really appeal to me - sticking my dirty fingers into my drink isn’t the best idea, and it doesn’t remove the water that already made its way in...

Still enjoyed it but I found it odd.

Sounds like a rowdy clientele where they worry about keeping people less drunk? I have never seen a good bar tell you how to drink your whiskey but I have seen bars pour different amounts of spirit depending on if you order it neat, with water or over ice. Maybe you didn't get the same pour as you would with spirit only

No on both counts. Private party and also like I said it was a swank place. The pour was the pour - I watched her use the measuring thingy. Single cube went in at the end.

If she did that with me I would proceed to take it out and practice my free throws with her sink.

Ok guys in my usual spirit of honesty, I’m gonna admit something publicly to you. Please try not to laugh too hard at me, as it was done by design. Without boring you with too many details, I recently was gifted a $50 gift card by the manager at Red Lobster, after filling out a survey on how terrible their service was. Waited an hour for our food to arrive in an almost empty restaurant. (Light lunch food...not lobster)

So I decided to have a little bourbon with my meal. Big mistake, as they only had Knob Creek Small Batch & standard Maker’s. Both are probably my least favorite bourbons I’ve ever had, so I decided to get a little creative. Since I plan on designing the perfect Old Fashioned by scratch, utilizing well researched ingredients, I wanted to at least try one first. I never had one before, and thought I’d learn something. Well indeed I did; I learned how to ruin your first Old Fashioned experience lol.

It was served almost over-flowing, with 2 huge orange slices (one crammed in the glass and the other on the rim), I’m guessing what used to be a cheap cherry, maybe some dashes or bitter and worst of all....Fireball whiskey HAHA. The menu said Maker’s btw. Oh and tons of ice too.

UPDATE: just got the check. This bastardized “Old Fashioned” cost $6.99

Wow lol. I’m sorry for you, man. The muddled orange slice and maraschino cherry combo usually is a sign your getting a crap old fashioned - and then to add Fireball!?

If you told me any of that misadventure was intentional on their part, I’d give Red Lobster points for emphasizing their obvious bastardization of the culinary arts.

I had to work an eleven hour shift yesterday, on my birthday. No holidays in the casino business.
So I went a little overboard shopping at the hooch store today.
I opened the Clyde Mays immediately and had a little sample with the wife. Very enjoyable!

Happy birthday party day brother! And good luck hanging on to that KBS
