My commute tonight has been delayed. I decided to stay at work an extra hour and a half to let things speed back up again. This happened in the lane going opposite what I will be tonight, but you always have those that want to see "what's going on over there" Rush Hour Snarled On I-40 After Fuel Spill

POSTED: 5:34 pm EST December 16, 2005
UPDATED: 6:26 pm EST December 16, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A truck pulling a trailer has jackknifed and overturned Friday afternoon on Interstate 40 west near Cary Towne Boulevard.

All lanes of I-40 west are blocked at the accident scene, which is just west of the US 1/64 interchange. Traffic is backed up for several miles -- all the way to South Saunders Street.

The traffic tie-ups aren't limited to I-40 -- there are reports that cars are turning off I-40 on various exits, causing delays on side streets that normally are clear, such as Tryon Road.

The North Carolina DOT estimates the wreck will tie up traffic until at least 6 p.m.

It's 7 pm now and traffic is still backed up more than normal in the East bound lanes. Well, about 15 more minutes and I'll fire up this LDF Double Ligero Torp and head for the house.

Damn

If i have a cigar and I am in traffic I usually don't even care.
That's usually my attitude. This is the last cigar I have with me today, but I have a pipe and some Frog Morton on standby.

My commute is 7 miles, takes me about 30 minutes if I leave at 7:30 am. I live in the northwest side of Chicago, so it's all crappy traffic the whole way. I'm trying to get motivated enough to bike commute soon, although I'll miss listening to music.

My commute is 26 miles each way. Nearly all expressway. 35 minutes if I behave. I leave about 5:20 AM and trffic is usually light. Been doing this since I remarried and moved about 12 years ago. Not too bad.

Mine is 38 miles, average 55 minutes. 45 minutes when school out. Can take over 2 hours when main route I-95, or Balto-Wash Pkwy. gets shut down. Mostly I take backroads (vs secondary roads) to get to the highway. One way I found I would hit only 4 traffic lights (now has 6). Now can work from home 1 day a week and pick my child up at the bus stop in the evening, right accross the street. Priceless.

Well right now we have 4 different jobs going that are anywhere from 15 min. - 2 hours away. So it could be country roads one day and highways the next.

Depending which job I'm going to its either a 15 minute drive or a 20-25 minute drive. All of the driving is on back roads so its usually not an issue getting there in good time.

Got a new job, so the commute is going to change. Public transportation into NYC.

Got to figure out the best route.

Helloooooooooooooooo Metro North

Where in the city?

I see some Hudson Bar & Books time in your future.

Unless you're midtown - then probably carnegie club or club mac.

And.... Fridays at Florios.

My commute is now about 2 tenths of a mile to work from the condo and about 3-4 miles to school. Not too shabby!
