I have been rolling this around in my head for a while. I think I can say that these are the five records most likely to put me in a fantastic mood when listened to from start to finish, regardless of how shitty I feel at the moment.

The Clash - London Calling
Depeche Mode - Violator
John Coltrane - Africa
Kraftwerk - Computer World
Holst - The Planets (Berlin Philharmonic - Conducted by Von Karajan).

Honorable mention:
Ibrahim Ferrer - "Buena Vista Social Club Presents"
Bob Marley - "Exodus"
Don Drummond - "Jazz Ska Attack 1964" (comp)
Marvin Gaye - "What's Going On"

Let's see top 5 albums

Nevermind- Nirvana
Kerplunk- Green Day
At Folsom Prision - Johnny Cash
Time out of mind - Bob Dylan
Abbey Road- The beatles

best live album - Muddy "Mississippi" waters live

Lot tougher than i'd thought it would be but these are the ones that resonate with me the most
I've been a huge blues fan ever since I was 13 or 14 and that's saying a lot for a 90s kid. (My stepfather listened to every great classical/blues guitarist ever alive and it hooked me) I'm ashamed not to have had this Muddy Waters album in my ITunes. I'll be rocking it tonight with some bourbon neat. Thanks for the heads up GP!
I don't have a top five, only Best ever.
Pearl Jam Ten. I can just about sing the whole album verbatim.

Morphine - good
Ween - The Mollusk (this could easily be replaced by any Ween album, but The Mollusk Tour was the best I ever saw them)
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Orange
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
Johnny Cash- American IV: The Man Comes Around

Live Album: Tie between Ween Live at Stubbs, and Dropkick Murphys Live on Lansdowne

After agonizing for a while with this, I thank Neil Peart for justifying my decision not to choose. "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."

Honestly, I couldn't even get past agreeing with myself on the rules for putting an album on the list. My primary hang-up lies with whether or not, in my mind, the 'top album' can have any 'dogs' at all. That is, would Pink Floyd 'Wish You Were Here' make my list with five great songs.....compared to Who's Next, with 8 near perfect songs and 'My Wife'?
What about Carole King's Tapestry, which is an incredible album, but for no good reason, I haven't listened to it for 2-3 years....

I don't think I'm indecisive, am I?

How about....

Who - Who's Next

Van Halen I

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast ....Like the one above, there are many albums with better music, but with no songs less than an '8', in my mind, this one belongs here

Rush - 2112 ....I could buy arguments for other early Rush albums being better musically, but when considering impact as a 'concept album', I have to go with 2112

Live: Rush - All the World's a Stage

I listen to so many different styles and bands so I'll just go with 5 of the ones I keep in the small case in my car that I never ever get tired of:
Kansas-Point of no return
Metallica-black album
Civil Wars-Barton Hollow
Dick Dale-Summer Surf
In flames-Clayman
