• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    this is worrisome

Koujo, this ruling doesn't change that. They could do that now. The only thing this ruling changes is that if you attempt to block them from entering, you can get arrested for it. The ruling doesn't give them leave to enter your house illegally, it just says you don't have the right to block...

    Cuban Limited Editions

I've stayed away from the LE's. Too much money when the regular line smokes are plenty good. That being said, having watched the trend, I've noticed that most aren't that impressive when they come out but many have really come to shine with age.

    this is worrisome

Hmmm. I'm torn on this one. I agree with partly with the following (hence the partial quote): Then again, that sounds as if you are saying, "you can enter illegally here, here and here" which basically changes the status of the entry to legal which seems wrong to me as well. The decision...

    How did you find BOTL?

This guy "Vipe", I think it was, told me about this newfangled forum he was starting with some other crazy dude..."DWavs" or something like that. Like a fool, I wandered over...

Having some issues with my Vino...

I wouldn't worry too much about the cigars, they'll probably be fine. The only real worry I would have would be bringing them up to 65% too fast. Give it some time and see what it does. Couple of thoughts? Didn't the weather in MI just change (to warm) as well? Is your drain plugged?

    Review: LaCrosse TX60U-SET WiFi Hygrometer

Once I was able to confirm communication of the unit inside the cooler I put the sensor in a small tupperware container with a couple of 75.5% Boveda packs for calibration. The sensor has been in the cooler since just before 6pm EST and I can now see from the automatically created excel...

    Review: LaCrosse TX60U-SET WiFi Hygrometer

OK, so if anyone's been following the latest on the WiFi hygrometer build thread, you may have seen this offering from LaCrosse discussed on page 4. Well, I decided to bite the bullet and pick one up to see how it worked. I've always wanted to be able to track what is going on in my...

Need "Duct Tape & Zip Tie" Humidor Advice

Stick the box in a large zip-lock or tupperware container. Cigar boxes are not meant to work as humidors, they will 'leak' like crazy. But in a sealed environment (ziplock/tupperware) the spanish cedar will help to control the humidity to some degree.

    Tupperdor Problems

No laughing. What you are describing is the tried and true form of humidifier that has been around forever. The only thing missing is PG (Propylene Glycol) solution. That's what is added to the foam along with the water to actually regulate humidity...and I believe it helps to keep...

    Anybody Shoot 3Gun?

That's about par for the course. The more tacti-cool the dude(tte) looks, the farther away I want to be when he(or she) starts shooting. Never been to a three gun shoot, I don't have a shotgun currently, but I've done a few pistol/carbine shoots at our local carbine club. Lots of fun. Wish I...

How does high temperature affect cigars

Not to be argumentative, but beetles can hatch at much lower temps and humidity than that. Finding concensus on what those temps and RH numbers are is a whole separate matter, but there is widespread information that it can be anywhere down to 65 degrees and 40% RH. These are minimum...

    Heartfelt Beads, Frequently Asked Questions

My post was made on the assumption that we were dealing with cigars stored in a 55% environment. Hence the following part of my post that you did not quote:

    Tupperdor Problems

Yes. Anytime you replace batteries you should recalibrate just as a precaution. I try to make it a habit to test my hygrometers at least once per year.

How does high temperature affect cigars

No, and not really. There is more moisture in the cigar at higher temps given the same RH, but not so much that you should notice draw issues. That being said you could go a bit lower on the RH without any issues or try dry boxing if you are seeing those kinds of issues consistently. Your...

What type of Hygrometer do you use?

Digital Analog is a digital hygrometer that reads like an analog. Think the digital speedometers or tachometers that the 80's Vettes had.

    Seasoning Humidor

Man, this just sucks. I'm at a loss as to what to suggest at this point. I assume the cloth and water bowl have been in there for the 2 weeks without the humidor being opened regularly. I would pull them out and see where the RH settles. What is your ambient Temp and RH?

What type of Hygrometer do you use?

Better have that Hygro sealed in Lucite, it's one in a million. You are talking about a straight analog, not one of the newer digital analogs? If so, you really do have a rarity. If you are one that likes to know their hygro is reading true I would be sure to check it at least every...

Need "Duct Tape & Zip Tie" Humidor Advice

What Justin said, especially the last part. You really don't have the tools necessary to keep things for very long, though I have to give props to the MacGyver-ish way you went about things. If you are only going to keep them for a short period of time, say less than a week, just...
