• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    "Cigars are puke"

Reminds me of a great George Carlin quote, who ironically enough hated cigars. Something like....."think how dumb the average person is, now remember that half the world is dumber than that."

I dont believe half the stuff that guy says. If he was all he makes himself out to be his name would be known beyond his few YouTube videos. Just my 2 cents though.

Its completely different lol. Back in my prime I could split a dutch and have it rerolled in under a minute no BS. Perfect seam line, looked like a professional rolled petite corona. Ah the good ol' days

    Blend testing

The criollo/corojo/broadleaf combo has been my go to since I first tried it. I try other stuff but I always find myself drawn back to the spicy and creamy mocha notes of that combo. No matter what primings or proportions you put those 3 together and your getting something tasty!

    Today's Smoke (2004-2022 Archive)

I smoked one yesterday and they're off to a good start I think they'll follow in line. They're finally starting to lose their harshness and open up a bit. I must say for being 6 years old the OR sure as hell still has its spice and strength, very impressive. I think they're hitting their peak...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

FWIW when I brew my chocolate stout I soak 4oz cocoa nibs + 1 vanilla bean(split/scraped) with just enough bourbon to cover it all in a jar, then add the whole tincture to the keg. Results are always phenomenal with a smooth real chocolate flavor. The key is starting the tincture ahead of time...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Berliner #1 came out delicious! Still not fully carbed to 3.0 vols but once it is it should be pretty spot on. Nice clean lemon-like tartness with a tasty underlying wheaty dough flavor. Just needs some more bite from the CO2 to really drive it home.

These are exceptional. Lots of subtleties. It's early to say but IMO easily a top 3 cigar of '16 for me.

    Kudos to Smoke Inn

Smoke Inn is one of the better vendors out there IMO. Great selection, service, and pricing. I live a few hours away so shipping is quick too!

    God of fire

I've had the 06 Carlito and Serie B and both are fantastic cigars. The Serie B being the heavier of the 2 though still in the heavy medium range.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

What a busy day for beer. Starting off bottling up a batch off the keg to clear some space. Then to keg up my Rye Blonde and wash the yeast cake so I can pitch it on a Berliner I've had souring overnight in the carboy. After racking back to the kettle to kill off the lacto first of course. I've...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

It might be a little work but I don't see why not. They'll keep trying to go vertical you just have to weave the bines along the fence. You sort of have to do it every day or so otherwise it's hard to guide the bines once they latch onto something or itself. Make sure to leave room for sidearms...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Anyone going to jump into this I highly recommend looking into hop crowns from Great Lakes Hops. It puts you about 2 years ahead of starting from a rhizome. Although more varieties are available if you start from rhizomes. Also if you don't have the space for a trellis bines can be trained to...

Extremely toxic and easily lethal. I got this quote from a homebrew forum but I believe its originally from Wikipedia. "Toxicology The LD50 of nicotine is 50 mg/kg for rats and 3 mg/kg for mice. 40–60 mg can be a lethal dosage for adult human beings. This makes it an extremely deadly poison...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Just my 2 cents here but if you do end up brewing 3-4 batches I'd do some variations. Oak aged, coffee, chocolate...that sort of thing. I think this recipe would do lovely on oak or cocoa nibs. Are you maybe missing any tiny pieces from taking it apart? Our pumps have some pretty small parts...
