True enough! the unfinished area that I want to utilize as the finished "rec room" is about 3000 CF. I think that if I can cycle that volume every 10 minutes (just guessing here, but that would be a good starting point) I could make a relatively smoke free environment for smoker/nonsmoker comfort. That translates to about 300 cfm cycle time. I am willing to install the duct work myself and install the fan as well. Someone suggested I use a house fan (one of those you put in attics) and run the air through an HEPA furnace filter. A previous suggestion from a bro lead me to a site that sells filter systems but they didn't handle the capacity I was looking for. Maybe my cycle time is unrealistic. Haven't found a good resource for planning a smoking room yet.

What about some of those smoke eaters from The Sharper Image or some like them. I heard they work great.

I read a Consumer Report article on those Ionic type air purifiers and don't think they got a very good review. If that isn't true then they are certainly an option!

I have one of those sharper Image Ionic cleaners and while it sort of works, its a pain to clean regularly. Switch to a panasonic exhaust fan. Silent but effective.

Thanks CW! That is exactly what I need. I'll dig a bit into the related sites and see what the suggested exchange rate is for a smoking area. The inlines don't seem to be too expensive either.

 Sure! You obviously didn't read "Men/mars/women/venus"! That's just her way to communicate!! What she's saying is 1) She's crazy about you 2) she feels comfortable enough to joke about things with you 3) she has a sinus problem.... ya just gotta dig deep for the content... that's all they really want.

I guess I should add to this thread the fact that my wife and I spent our sixth annivesary dinner smoking cigars and watching the Busch race together at a cigar bar in DC this past weekend.

My wife came down when I was enjoying a P3k the other night and commented that she liked the aroma. Asked if she could take a hit (she smoked Macs for awhile) and liked it. Guess I'd better watch my stash now.

My fiance supports my habit. From time to time she will buy me a few cigars. She also enjoys sitting on the deck on a summer night and enjoying her own cigar.
