Third day in a row shaving and I feel a lot more comfortable using the DE safety razor. At one point, I started to touch up a spot that was dry and I could feel the razor tug - no nick or burn but I can see where you could get lazy, not add some more shaving cream, and cut yourself or irritate your skin. Lesson learned!

Since my wife hopped into the shower first, I had to shave before I showered so the only change up in the routine was the prep:

Prep: Soaked a wash cloth in hot water and pressed against my face for a minute until it cooled, then repeated this step.
Pre-shave oil: Rdomfoto Oil #5
Cream: Proraso Sandlewood cream
Brush: Summer badger hair brush
Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89lbl with chrome handle
Blade: Derby
After shave balm: L'Oreal Men's Expert Shaving Balm
Cologne: (oops, I forgot to put that on)

Brush: VDH Boar Brush
Soap: Arko Shave Stick
Razor: Gillette Super Speed
Blade: Shark Super Chrome
Post: Gillette After Shave Lotion

two blade disposable razor in the shower no cream no sauce.
awwww, that's no fun! o(

anyone here familiar with arko shave soap sticks?
This was my first time using it, a buddy gave me two sticks randomly while at the bar. It wasn't bad and lathers up really quick, some people hate the smell but personally it reminds me of old school hotel soap.

Arko reminds me of some sort of old school soap too. Sometimes I think it's a stronger Ivory soap scent. But I do recall a bar non shaving soap that had this scent when I was younger.

If you are using Arko wet the top of the stick with some water and wait a minute or two. Then apply Arko stick to face hair and well as on your brush. Arko never fails to give me good thick lather and it has a wide window for dialing it in. Highly recomend for begining shavers, since it's so easy to lather.

If you are not getting good lather with Arko, there is two things it could be. Not enough Arko soap or more water is needed.

Was it a better shave, worse, or just different?

That's always good when it turns out to be a good shave. My second shave I changed to many things and it was the most painful and worst experience I have ever had. Tomorrow I am making my pre shave so super excited for the shave tomorrow.

Congrats, brother!

At the Chicago herf last night, we spent a good 10-15 minutes talking about shaving. Hard to explain to people who aren't into it why we find it such a great exercise, but it is. Hope it goes well tomorrow!

Sweet!

What did you think of the Bigelow shave cream? I think, for now, I am going to settle on the Proraso since I get such a nice lather from it. I figure I have another month worth of the Darby blades and then I can crack open the Feathers. Just ordered a new aftershave - Clubman Pinaud tonic. I'll let you know how it goes.

It's actually really funny that you say that. I was at my parents house last night and I was talking about it and my dad and brother that it was insane that I shave with a single blade. How it takes to much time and crap. They don't get it. Lol. Soon they will join us.

The Bigelow is a slightly modified Proraso and I love it. From my reading they are pretty damn interchangeable. The nice thing about the Bigelow is that a large tube is $10 and Bath and Bodyworks usually has them buy 2 get 1 free.
