OK, in all seriousness, if you guys want to use KL crystals, go for it. This has absolutely nothing to do with the name. It has everything to do with the fact that these crystals are designed for absorption, not 2 way humidity control. If you guys get these to work for you and you are satisfied who am I to tell you what to use. But we make a significant investment in these cigars, and I don't want to skimp when it comes to humification of them. If these beads are good enough to be used by museums to take care of their most prized possesions, it's good enough for me and my cigars. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to spend extra money just to say I did. But I also want to know that what I am getting is doing the job right.

JMHO for what it's worth.
Word!

Spending big $$$ on cigars and talking about using kitty litter vs. a proven product designed to maintain a specific RH (60, 65 or 70%) is just too freaking hilarious.

Comparatively a big difference in price. Relatively not a lot of money compared to the value of your cigars.

Plus …. Our freaking cats would find it .. I know they would. :pokemyeye

As many have said & feel: Protect your large investment with a tried & true product. Kitty litter beads may have some testing done that has worked, but none near the amount that the beads have had.

Why save 20 bucks to protect an investment of hundreds or more realistically thousands?

That was more of my point Jason.

I have tried the Kitty litter crystals out and there is just too much that can (and does) go wrong with the "conditioning" and the performance was too varied for my liking. They consistantly produced an RH level that is not where I would store my collection for an extended period of time.

I'm not knocking anyone who uses them by any means! To each his own, for sure!

Hmmmm, 20 bucks?

Kitty Litter is ~ $1.40 per pound.

Xrundog's thread showed a steady 65% RH was acheived with the KL in a sealed salt test once 78% was reached and the salt removed while placing some KL in there.

To each his own.

(I used to swear up and down I would never use kitty litter in my humidor until I read his thread. I know Tim (Xrundog) and am convinced.)

I am pretty convinced the makeup of Heartfelt beads and these exact ExquisiCat Pearl Fresh beads do the same thing. Like I posted earlier, the KL beads consist of silica sand, oxygen, and water NOTHING ELSE. I am no chemist, but the Heartfelt beads are smaller and white when dried out. The KL beads are about 50% larger and clear when dried out. When water is added, Heartfelt beads turn clear and the KL beads turn white. Otherwise they do about the same thing within a couple RH points, the KL of mine seem to hold slightly higher. For me this is good as the cooler is holding boxes that I plan on storing for a while. Are they the same exact thing, NO!. But when (not if) I get another cooler, I shall be using the KL beads in the cooler. The KL beads I have now used in the cooler for 2 months is holding steady 67-68RH. For those unsure, order the beads from www.heartfelt.com by all means. But until you have tried these or at least consider them, keeping a closed mind is fine with me. Until you have, then you are speculation based on a preconceived conclusion unless like Mark you have tried them and decided against them. In the case of Mark and Kluggs, you two are WAY out there for cigar collecting then most smokers and I see your point. Otherwise, I am done for the KL topic. Thank you and good night.

I have an Aristocrat Delta 3000 packed to the gills and a120qt cooler, super absobant polmers in the Set N Forget and Cigar Oasis, 2-3lbs of kitty liter to reduce humidity in the Arisocrat and 1lb in the cooler (during the summer the Set n Forget & Oasis are unplugged) it has worked for me for 3 summers. Before that I had multiple coolers all with kl for humdify. I started with Climaxx media but switched to kl after having coolers with each for over a year and seeing no difference and no more effort in maintaining.

The Climaxx media did keep cracking until it got so small it was useless. This took about 2 years andI only used distilled water, so when it came time to replace I bought more kl. I don't have and never will have a cat so I'm not worried about one pissing on the kl.

Xrundog's thread was a short term experiment but another BOTL that goes by Cigarnv on a few boards is the father of kl and has done this for years and if I remember correctly has his kl set a 60%. I'll try a search and see if I can find threads.

This is my opipion and worth exactly what you paid for it. Use what makes you happy.

All I know if that my cooler is 100qt and has a full pound of Heartfelt beads (65%) and I can't get it below 68% which is too high for my babies. Cigars that drew fine now don't from the same boxes I set in there. I dried the beads almost completely to no avail. I was about to order another pound when this came along. I'm hoping this will bring the humidity down.

The new 60% beads work very well.

Maybe I can trade. The credo replacements have worked awesome in my two big 300 desk tops. Rock solid at 65%. The cooler has been a constant 68% to 69%.

Reid's posts were on Friends of Habanos.

It is a sponsored link in Google so I hope there is no problem with me posting that forum.
