    Temperature vs. RH

I am a bit of a science geek. My problem was understanding the relationship of temperature to RH. I could not figure out how the changes didn't affect cigars. Now I do. In a nutshell, the cigars absorb or give off moisture based on the RH and not the absolute moisture content of the air...

    The eleagant winador

She's done. Stained, varnished, conditioned and full of cigars (well not really full) I decided to build an angled shelf for the winador so that the cigars are on display. While drawers look very nice, I love the look of cigars and cigar boxes. I made a shallow pan for kitty litter and...

    Temperature vs. RH

OK, I'm convinced. It's very interesting. I so often read read about people debating the difference between 65% and say 68%. I often wonder if they are paying close attention to the temperature because it has a huge affect on what the actual MC of their cigars is. Most people don't have a...

    Temperature vs. RH

I have looked for a chart like this for quite a while but was unable to find one. I find this one a bit hard to believe. It says that with only a 2 degree change in temperature we should read a full 5% change on our hygrometer. Seems too high from what I know about temperature vs. RH but I'm...

    Temperature vs. RH

Zmilin, that's a very interesting video. I have always wondered why everyone talks about RH rather than % moisture content. For those who are wondering, the moisture content is expressed as the percentage of weight. Therefore, if a cigar is 13% moisture content then 13% of its weight is...

    Temperature vs. RH

In another thread the topic of how much we should be concerned about temperature changes came up. I thought it should be its own thread. The standard opinion is to keep storage temperature stable and somewhere around 65 - 70 deg. I don't see the reason. If the temp is too high then there is...

    Instead of a Cooler......

I cannot understand why temperature itself is a big issue. If the temp is too high then there is a risk of beetles hatching but if there are no beetles then it is irrelevant. If the RH stays good then I don't see what the effect of +/- 10 degrees would do. Could someone please enlighten me...

It's red oak. That's the cheapest hardwood in these parts. It will look very different when it is stained a rich, dark brown.

Woofador: Herfdog's wine fridge wineadore build

As I understand it, thermoelectric units are only capable of keeping the temperature several degrees blow the ambient (outside) temperature. They are not powerful like a compressor unit. Maybe when it gets hot out and you really need to cool, it may only cool to 65 deg. or so (or maybe not).

    The eleagant winador

I'm getting there. The tricky part was figuring out how to keep the door working while at the same time not making the door obvious. With most units the drawers are the main focal point. While the drawers look nice I prefer the look of cigars so I'm going to incorporate an idea that my...

Woofador: Herfdog's wine fridge wineadore build

Great score herfdog. You're right about the surface area, keep it big. Also, make sure you fill the unit with cigar boxes. The less air space the better. Cigars and wood hold the moisture. Every time you open the door much of the conditioned air will escape and you KL will have to...

    question on Cohiba from DR

The cigar I had looked like the photo posted. Thanks for the information from everyone, and the opinion on using the Cohiba name. I figured my original post was a bit too political but sometimes it's fun to stir the pot. Bruce.

    question on Cohiba from DR

The cigar I bought for $3 was not a red dot made by General Cigar. It had the Cuban style yellow band but where it would normally say "Habanos" under the Cohiba, it said "Dominican Republic". I can't imagine why anyone would counterfeit a cheap Dominican cigar but maybe they do.

    question on Cohiba from DR

This post was about to drop off the page with no replies. I'm a bit surprised. With all the knowledge here someone must know a bit of the recent history of Dominican Cohibas ???

    The eleagant winador

When I joined this forum several months ago I was amused at how people recited the mantra "if you stick around here you're going to need more storage". Of course I didn't fall for that silliness. Well after a couple of months I moved from a desktop humidor to a pair of tupperdors. The next...

    question on Cohiba from DR

Being a Canadian I don't get to see much choice of cigars for sale except on-line. Due to very high tobacco taxes, punitive anti-smoking laws and long, cold winters, there are not many cigar smokers here. I was in Arizona last week and bought a yellow label Cohiba from the Dominican Republic...
