  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

    Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Has anyone else experienced this? I find that I can go from smoking a cigar to smoking a pipe without any problems, but if I smoke a pipe and then light a cigar, the cigar inevitably tastes like crap. Anyone else?

    I picked up 3 of them on close out at Holt's b&m in Center City Philadelphia. You might try calling the store to see if they have any left (I haven't been able to get there for the past month or so). 215-732-8500. I think I paid something like $25 apiece.

    I hate to say it, but one of my favorite blends is J&B. In the single malts, I like Speyside and most of the Glenmorangies.

    The Xikar Executive appears to be exactly the same lighter as one of the models sold under the Tiger name, which you can pick up for around $8 or so on ebay. Probably the same one sold at dpricenator's gas station. It's just a question of economics whether to buy a few of the cheap ones, or...

    FWIW, I own a bunch of Zippos, some with Z-Plus butane inserts, some with Thunderbird butane inserts, and some with the OEM lighter fuel inserts, and I have never noticed a difference in the way my cigars taste, based on which lighter I used. Try using the Zippo with Zippo lighter fluid, and...

    What do you consider to be "the good stuff"? You need Vector or something that is refined at least 3 times, and 5 times is better.

    I have an X-tend that I got on sale from Mike's for about $100. It is probably the best lighter I own. Lights the first time, every time, uses standard butane without an adapter, has great capacity despite the slim profile, and looks good. :applause:

    Whatever you do, throw away the Thompson's catalog immediately and never, ever, ever order anything from them, let alone the Iguana! The other comments are spot on, although I personally prefer the Fuente candelas.
