Pete, regardless of what happens, people are still going to put the coffins on eBay. With LE's, just like Cuba, some people get them, some don't. Those who don't get to read CA an the reviews. In a perfect world, you would have an unlimited source of Tat black crop, the Fuentes Opus would never have a lighter shade wrapper, the 8-5-8 sungrowns would be allover, and the Partagas Serie D3 2001 would multiply in my humidors:) lol. Keep doing what your doing bro!
Pete, Im sorry but there is just no way at all to keep boxes showing up on EBAY an elsewhere. If you sell just 100 boxes, there would be an even higher percentage on eBay because the value would then be so high. I can guarantee you that Dracs will be on eBay next week and for weeks to come, more than last year, an they will sell for more than the Frank did. It's simple supply. And drmand. You just can't stop this, it's not possible in a free market.

i just want to smoke the cigars. put 'em in a plain bag and send 'em to me...

That is the way I am I smoke to smoke and I smoke too much. I did not get any Franks when they came out, for that matter I did not know if them as I was not of this board and this board is all about Tats. It is insane. A box, a bundle it really does not mater to me. I just want to be able to smoke some and say that I did. I really think this whole things is crazy. I am not on any list as I do not have the time to call all the stores on the list. I have my daily "being a father" duties. I guess the novelty of only make so many boxes (666, 1000, 1300, etc) is ok. But why not make more? You would sell them. I have a hard enough time trying to find your regular stuff. Your smokes are great, the marketing is great for what you are trying to do. In the end not everyone is going to get some. Sure, that is frustrating as hell. , especially when some other dude has like 6 boxes. I have no connections and that certainly does help. That is why we have to look on the secondary market to try and buy them for a higher price. SUre the ticket thing is cool but it is not needed, the boxes will sell themselves.

I do like the CRA idea, there should be one place like you site to get them. Or how about start a Tatuaje fan club? We would all join, charge a yearly fee and we would get first dibs on new stuff and also make special fan club smokes. More money for you and we would be happy with that. I am a member of many rock group fan clubs just so I can get better seats and sooner than when they go on sell to the public. Pete you should really take care of your fan base first and it will grow.

Pete,

I don't have any problem with the way you do it now. There is no difference between cigars, cars, baseball cards or anything else that is limited edition. Unfortunately, some people will always buck the system and make money off anything.

Personally, I collect cigars so that I can smoke them, not make money off them. The memories created when smoking a great cigar is priceless to me. Well that and bomb people! That's right, I bombed a few people with Franks in their missiles. It's called sharing the share and that's what brothers do!

Ron, you know they will just end up being exploded in some poor souls mailbox :) But then again, maybe you will get a package with tubes labeled "Bombed by Pete":santa2:

Wouldn't you like to know?
NO!!! That is cruel to all us foreigners! :angerFU:

EDIT - Bear in mind, I really am not mad. But I believe a few members here will agree...most of us not American, of course.
Actually they are open to non american's joining. I will join because I believe in it, and because Canada has a very lame tobacco lobby that isn't going to do a thing for us. I haven't joined yet because I didn't want to do it just for the smokes. Maybe today would be a great day to sign up.

This may be a great opportunity to open a store. I would call it "Pete's Place". I just need a backer (hint hint:angel:). Nothing but Tat's and Pepin.
Scott, I love your idea, but please include Dion's cigars too!

I like it. I smoke cigars, not cigar boxes. The coffins are fun but the cigars were great. I smoked all but one. Would have loved to get a few more. The "collectors" get what they want and the cigar smokers get to enjoy your product. Seems very win win.

Well said. I agree with this.

Whoever, I do like unique boxes, the best go on my wall in my cigar room.

Maybe you can have Mr. Pepin and Mr. Johnson also open up their vaults and pull out some of the recipes from the discontinued LE sticks and some of the good Padilla (DPG times) and they can call them "HHB's"...Hendy's House Blends...just food for thought! And scotty...I hit that 200M tonight...you can count me in as your backer!

A couple of thoughts:

~As others have said, the way that you are doing it now is not the problem. The problem is that some of the stores had NO idea what was happening, and thus, they had no plan for all these people when they got BLASTED with phone calls. And a store saying you have to buy another box to get on the list to buy a box of Dracs? Crazy...

~The way you are doing it is fine. You can't release a limited stick (VERY limited) and not expect some people to not get some. and those people will be upset...You can't please everyone Pete....

~I like the idea of using CRA,but I don't like the idea of the local shops missing out on the release...

~I LOVE the idea of a fanclub. U2 has one, why not you? The members would get priority for boxes of things like this (presell?) and perhaps a special release just for them...Kinda like what CF did...

~I do like the idea of a BOTL stick just for us, but not the Monster...another stick altogether...

Just my $.02...Spend it wisely :)

I think these will wind up being more available than everyone realizes, especially with 1300 boxes out there.

There are 403 going to the "unlucky" 13.
That leaves another 897 out there to be spread all around the country.
Yes but like I said earlier, a good portion of those 897 boxes will be broken open to sell as singles. What a waste of the actual boxes for people that actually like collecting unique ones... they have no shot at buying a full box.

There are 20 secondary retailers and I've heard directly from a few of them they are expecting anywhere from 10-20 boxes which may or may not be accurate. So that means 200-400 boxes goes to them, 403 to the primary for a total of 603-803. That leaves 500-700 boxes left that will be broken up for singles. What retailer that is only getting 2-3 boxes will sell them intact? Only if they owe a big favor to a customer or will keep them for themselves.

To me personally... that's a big waste of the unique boxes.

With that said, I think it should be easy enough for customers to get 1 or 2 singles to try which is good.

the cra idea worries me, just as much as just giving it to and one shop, takes something from it, i just wish i could say exactly what it is that i feel would be lost. maybe the national aspect? being from a cigar unfriendly region-i'm acutely aware of it.
and it makes me feel pretty disconnected from the excitement to just hope i am the flash on the phone or internet to get a shot at one.

if you were to decide to do just one shop, instead of it being a mad dash, have you considered integrating your lottery system to us, the loyal fans? maybe all of us getting a lot number, then they are released on the 13th, knowing that Gloucester will be the main location? then just limit the number of boxes one can purchase to 2 maybe 3, but that would give a level of fairness that we might not be able to achieve any other way.

if you did that, from one location, you could truly control the golden tickets, and know exactly who your cigars are going to, your fans.

and if loyal fans want singles and 5 packs, do those at your local B & M across the country in a coffin box, or whatever so new customers might have a chance to know the monster!

The problem with the system now is that all these vendors are breaking up the coffins, which kinda takes away from the whole ticket in the boxes, because that doesnt give the consumer much of a chance IMO. Other than that I enjoy being able to get a few boxes in my state and not having to get in touch with one store that I have no relationship with in order to try and procure these smokes.

But the retailers are able to claim the prize also. Pete was very up front about that! I still say, lot's of hoopla about a thing that turns to ash! But that hoopla happens with anything new. Ipods, Iphone, Xbox, you name it, there will be always something that everyone wants. Not everyone ends up being happy either.
