• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Nice bands

I have a local BOTL that's moving away. I have rolled up a wheel of cigars as a gift and I'd like to do something a bit nicer as to the bands than my usual 2 boxes on a strip cut out of copy paper. I'm looking for small quantities and I'm willing to spend a couple bucks. Any ideas?

    Rolling meet up

Has anyone ever scheduled a meet up event"? I would appreciate the opportunity to sit down with fellow rollers and learn how to do a proper triple Cuban cap. I do pigtails because its serviceable and easy, but I always feel like a poser when I lay them out on the table.

    Stash

I roll when my wood humidor starts dropping RH. Cause, ya see rolling 20 sticks is a LOT less expensive than buying a gallon of DW at the grocery :o I bought my first mold ( robusto grande) and rolled 10 in a weekend. Dolls molded Saturday, wrapped Sunday. Then I realized that there's at least...

Resource for comparison of cigar leaf

The famopus pri I was referring to the famous primings diagram which shows 3 (or 5) different primings of leaf harvested from a single plant. my "sense" was that there may well be entire plants devoted to a single type of leaf (Seco, visio, Ligero) as a result of early pruning.

Resource for comparison of cigar leaf

I was watching a youtube video of 2 people standing in a tobacco field discussing the plants around them. The grower commented that the plants were topped early to encourage large leaf growth rather than tall plant stalks, resulting in an entire plant producing a single "priming" of tobacco. (I...

    Dividers

If you want non spendy, most wood cigar boxes are made of sc and can be broken up and trimmed to make dividers. My B&M sells empty cigar boxes for $2.00 each.

    Dividers

You can do what you want. I have personally never seen the interior of a humidor with anything but unfinished Spanish cedar. I would be concerned with anything else imparting an undesirable taste to the cigars.

How is this scientifically possible in a humidor?

The answer is it depends. In reality every environment has a blend of yeast and mold spores. Each is different. Heck, even people nave a biome. There is talk of using biological signatures like fingerprints to uniquely identify people :) You could keep your humi in high temp/rh and never get...

    Dividers

I wouldn't introduce metal into a humid environment, You can get SC planks at amazon.

    Humidor or Coolidor?

I store my coolerdor cigars in plastic trays from Walmart, separated by strips of Spanish cedar. I use the trays to organize sticks that are similar and to improve air circulation. I can grub my way through the entire collection in short order.

How is this scientifically possible in a humidor?

Also, check the construction of the humidor floor. Many are a thin sheet of veneer over particle board. If that is your situation, you can either: 1. Seal the joints with clear silicon aquarium sealant (remove all the sticks and allow the sealant to cure COMPLETELY before returning them...

    Humidor or Coolidor?

Everybody has their own opinion. Here's mine. When I first got into cigars I bought a 250 count wood humidor that got filled up in less than a month. In that month I browsed several online forums and was turned on to coolerdors. I already had 3 coolers in the basement so I bought a pound of HF...

    Prepping binder and wrapper leaves

so noooow you tell me. I just finished rolling up butt ugly sticks with a pound of CT broadleaf maduro wrapper. Ran out and had to finish up the rack with a CT shade wrapper. The difference was like wrapping with silk VS a paper bag. No wonder the CT shade is so much more expensive. Its well...

    Sorting Leaf

I'm frugal by nature. I haven't found a wrapper leaf yet I couldn't' use for something, even if it was to patch other wrappers :)

    Sorting Leaf

I've read on other threads of BOTLs declaring leaves as "binder quality because it has a hole in it. I know for a fact that I have on many occasions used a leaf with holes as a wrapper because when I wrap I have at least 200% coverage and its very unlikely that there wlll be 2 holes lined up on...

what are your old reliable leaves you keep on hand

The thread title says it all. For those of you that have been rolling more than an year, or otherwise have reached a "blending stride" what are the old reliable leaves you always keep on hand? I hope that developing such a list may assist us newbies in selecting leaves with which to start our...

    Prepping binder and wrapper leaves

Does it stick flat even if its wrinkly, or do you have to filet it into a wrap ready strip? The leaves that are troubling me are approximately 18" long.
