The way I check is probably not orthodox but I lick the cap and roll it onto some paper. Oils when rolled on paper and left the duration of the smoke, say an hour, will diffuse out slightly after a while, whereas dyed wrappers will leave a stamp like marking rather inkishly.

The only cigar that stands out as too strong for me was the JdN Antano 1970. It nearly floored me. I had to put it down. I remember a lt that were close, but I can't rank 'em 1 to 5 though.

When you open the box and take a strong sniff near the feet, is it 'tangy'? If I smell that I know to stay away from em for a little bit. May not be sick, but grassy & flat for sure. I vote for sleepytime!
