The loss of a wonderful friend

This comes as a shock; it's sad news, and my thoughts go with Don's family and especially his wife, May. Don was a great guy--funny, chatty, ball-busting, and generous. Always enjoyed hanging out with him at Casa Fuente. RIP.

    Tatuaje Black Label Petite Lancero

I haven't the torps, but I can say that the pl has similar flavor characteristics to the cg. They're not the same by any means, but are comparable. The pl's definitely showing it's youth, though––much more direct than the cg (but to be fair the cg I had was about 2.5 years old already), with...

Wine connoisseurs post your current favorites and vintage

A couple recent faves: * 2005 Domaine Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes * 2003 Castelnau Suduiraut Sauternes (The Sauternes is great with an Epernay, by the way.)

Thanks for the review. These do seem to get a little overlooked, but I like these just about as much as BFs.

    Thoughts on the Face

I actually found it mellow upon its initial release. Flavorful, but very medium-bodied.

    So what Tatuaje was that?

    Noella Reserva 09. Great smoke....

    Which Illusiones come wet packed?

Like Dan said, the ~mj12~. Those are the only Illusiones, out of any of the lines, that come wet-packed. Tat Havana Cazadores come wet-packed as well, if you want another great and easy-to-find option.

Taking your cigar collection across the border (into Canada)

Just don't declare them. If your collection's not conspicuous in any way, I wouldn't even bother telling customs agents you've got cigars with you. As far as I remember, your luggage isn't subject to searches or x-rays when traveling by bus.

Do you think it's haughty to consider oneself an aficionado?

Strictly speaking, I think most people on this board can be considered aficionados, myself included (though there are plenty here who are way more educated about cigars). But would I ever call myself an aficionado? No. There are less self-aggrandizing ways to refer to what kind of smoker I am.

Cheap and Tasty. My next Box?

I've never had any of the sticks in your poll, but for a box of +1 hour long smokes for roughly ≤$100/box, assuming I could get a good deal on them online (cbid, etc.), I'd personally pick up: JdN Antaño Lanceros; or LFD Chisel Maduros (10-ct.); or Padrón 3000 Maduros; or Padrón Delicias...

No, you're right. I was just responding to Farani's post. If he'd missed the other thread about the L40, he may not have gotten the point that the "L" stood for "lancero." Maybe I should've written: "There's nothing in the name that clearly indicates that it's a lancero."

    Cruzado Avalitos

I don't taste the same degree of difference in the profiles of the Cruzados I've had as I do amongst the Illusione OD sticks, so maybe the blends don't differ as much in the former as they do in the latter. Some confirmation on this would be cool, though, if anyone knows for sure. That said...

To be fair, there's nothing in the name that suggests it's 7", or a lancero for that matter. Just saying....

    Advice? Casa Fuente

Like everyone else said, ask him to get you the CF Lanceros, DC Lanceros, or the CF CGs. Be specific, because if he's not familiar with cigars and cigar prices, he might end up being talked into buying some Opuses, Fuentes, or Ashtons, and they're way overpriced there. Best to get the stuff...
